Kenji Sawada


Kenji Sawada (沢 田 研 二, June 25, 1948), nicknamed “Julie” (ジュリー – Jurii), also known as a singer for the group of Japanese pop The Tigers, is a Japanese singer, composer, lyricist and actor.

As a singer (he often worked as a songwriter) and actor, Sawada has made progress in Japanese popular culture over the last three decades of “the Showa era.” In the late 1960s, he succeeded as the lead singer of The Tigers. After the dissolution of the Tigers, he began a solo career. Solo, he has sold over 12 million singles and became the biggest male star in the 1970s and 80s. During the 80′s, his popularity declined, but he continued working as a successful artist. So far, he has sold over 15 million records !
